Highest Court
Emperor - The supreme ruler of Akkadia, his words is never questioned. This rank is inherited through the male line of the current Emperor, never through the female line. He is revered as the Warlord of the clan and thus his word is LAW.
Empress - The mate to the Emperor, she holds power over only the female side of things here. She will hold no true power over the ranks and while being high in the ranks will be nothing more usually then a figurehead for the female gender. She holds strict power over the mating requests of couples and will allow few to mate besides herself unless it is beneficial to the clan.
Strategos [General Adviser/Beta] - The Strategos is the main adviser to the Emperor and will acompany him almost everywhere, except when he is keeping tabs upon the land of Akkadia. He holds no real power over the army unless they serve as an adviser to the Polemarchos. Strata [General Adviser/Betaess] - The Strata is the adviser to the Empress and she many helps advise the Empress on when to accept or decline a request for a litter and other female related topics.
Sminarchos [Gamma] - Nothing more then a fall back if the Beta's fail. This is usually only a title given to a sabre while they work in another rank. Sminarcea [Gammess] - Nothing more then a fall back if the Beta's fail. This is usually only a title given to a sabre while they work in another rank.
Dioscuri [Heir to Emperor] - This is the named heir of the Emperor. It is always a blood-related son unless something extraordinary happens, but in all cases it will be blood-related in some form. They hold no power, so this is just a title.
Council of Elders
Navarchos [War Counselor] - This is the main battle tactics adviser of sorts. He will always be close on call should the Emperor need his presence for some strategy of his. This position is usually filled by an older male that has seen many battles. It will not be filled by a young whipper-snapper that has seen no wars. Experience is key to this position.
Sciritis [Defense Counselor] - This is pretty much the same as the War Counselor. They are always to be ready to be on call should the Emperor find his territory threatened by a rival clan or a wolf pack that has gotten greedy. This position is mainly for defense purposes and will be filled with an older battle-hardy male with sufficient experience.
Decanus [Special Missions Counselor] - This Counselor is placed in charge of tactics which deal with Assassins/Spies and Hunters. They will advise the Emperor as to when to organize a pack wide hunt, instead of just letting the Matarchis' hunt for the pack's food. They also deal with making sure that the assassins almost always have something to do, be it a bit of reconnaissance or someone to be killed. They always tell the Emperor and get his approval first, but he is generally trusted to be wise in his choices.
Evocati [Counselor of the People] - This Counselor is stationed among the people to live their lives and to settle disputes and arguments that should arise. Thye will keep the Emperor updated on the welfare of the people that he governs and will see that the People have a voice in meetings so nothing is decided unfairly for them. Generally a very outgoing person, but will still use brute force if needed to stop arguments.
The First Company
Polemarchos [High General over all working ranks] - The Polemarchos is the leader of every working rank below himself. He makes sure that no one person is idle and that everyone's jobs are being done to the best of their ability and no less. During times of battle he is the highest ranking officer besides the Emperor himself and will by definition be a warrior with great knowledge of battle formations and tactics. His job in times of peace, in addition to his warrior duties, is the scout out those suitable for certain ranks and suggest them to the Emperor as well as those to be demoted.
Legionaire [General of the Warriors and Guards] - The Legionaire is a Warrior that has either proven himself in battle or a Warrior that has served for more then a year. They are responsible for planning and carrying out the training of the Warriors and the Guards. They are picked for the fact that they can teach well and their students learn swiftly by their methods. During times of peace, their normal work day will consist of constructing and implementing new training programs and learning more themselves.
Lochagos [General of the Assassins/Spies] - The Lochagos is an Assassin that has proven themselves to the royalty in the sense that they can do their job quickly and easily no matter what it may be. They oversee the bulk of the training for the assassins when not on a mission for the royalty. They are expected to keep the assassins on their toes, by making sure their training is never the same. In times when the Lochagos is not needed, he will little more then a hunter for the pack, but mostly during times of peace there will be reconnaissance missions which they will be required to head.
Kleros [General of the Hunters] - The Kleros is a Hunter that has made through and complete studies of the lands on which the clan of Akkadia hunts. They are responsible for gathering enough food to feed the entire clan of Akkadia and if they fail and someone goes hungry, when they should not have it is not the Hunters that get lectured, it is the Kleros. Too many failures in this rank can mean death for the person in this rank.
Praetor [General of the Sentries] - The general of the Sentries is the Praetor and they are the one that sets the basic questions for the hopeful recruits that traipse up the border looking for Akkadia. They must keep their sentries up to date on how and why a recruit should be let in and they also set the challenges that are appropriate for certain qualities a person may say they have.
The Eighth Battalion
Lancearii [Royal escort/guards] - These are the guards that were hand picked by the Emperor to accompany him and the Empress when they travel about the packland. At least one is always around one or the other, maybe more depending on what is happening and where the Emperor is going, but as these are considered to be elite fighters you will never see more then eight within this rank.
Venator [Lieutenant over Warriors and Guards] - The Venator is one step below Lancearii, but while the Lancearii do not have power over the warriors and guards, the Venator does. He is responsible for carrying out any training orders that he is given by the Legionaire. He is always required to make sure that the warriors and the guards do not slack off or become bumps on a log. He is higher then both the Centurions and the Sagittarii but only slightly and his position depends upon the respect that those below him have for him. In times of peace they are expected to work with the assassins to coordinate escorts for reconnaissance missions.
Centurions [Head warriors; Commanders] - These are the elite warriors that are prospective members of the Lancearii but were turned down for some reason, but they are the most experienced of the common warriors and are generally sent on the front lines to wipe out as many of the other's front lines as fast as possible. Generally these are the tanks, but if you're slim and a good fighter it is a possibility that you could end up in here. During times of peace, they will be expected to be fighting fit at all times but from this rank escorts will be chosen to accompany assassins on their missions as well as to follow the Emperor in addition to the Lancearii to set up alliances.
Sagittarii [Head guards; Commanders] - These are the elite guards that like the Centurions were prospective members of the Lancearii at one point, but the Emperor turned them down for some reason. They are the first line of defense during a battle and they form a line just behind the Phalanx to protect the Emperor and other high ranks. They are expected to die before anyone gets past their barrier. In time of peace they will be assigned the duties of a sentry, so while they are in rest from fighting they can help keep the ranks plentiful with new blood.
Phalanx [Warriors] - These are your run of the mill warriors, or so most would think but most of the time each warrior will specialize in a specific type of fighting and because of that the Phalanx is stronger then it would be if they were all the same. All manner of body shapes can be found within this rank, some faster then others and some better at throwing around their brute force then others. Warriors will become hunters for the pack in times of peace unless they are needed for something else. They are expected to stay fighting fit however, and there will be a group that at all times will keep themselves trained.
Triarii [Guards] - These are your guards, basically warriors that would rather defend others then rush into battle. They too have a specific specialization for each member and these guards form a line just behind the Sagittarii and with this double line of defense no one should get through the barrier, if they do it is considered to be a failure on the guards' part. Guards will like the Sagittarii become sentries during times of rest. They will keep the rank of guard, but will have the duties of a sentry added to them.
The Ninth Legion
Legatus [Lieutenant over Assassins] - The Legatus is the leader of the assassins that will on missions lead them to the spot and then dispatch them out to do their various jobs. They are expected to bring everyone home safe, but that is only if they do not know what happened to one. At the maximum they can lose one assassin per mission, but they are looked upon with favor if none are lost. Times of peace will render this rank to just the eyes and ears of the pack outside of it's own borders.
Equite [Specialized Assassins] - These are the assassins that specialize in something other then fighting, such as herbs or other such things. They are essential on the battlefield as they are usually sent out to undermine the enemy by poisoning the water or other means. Each Equite is given free range over their specialization as long as it is not used against the Clan of Akkadia. Equites in times of rest from war, will be expected to advance in their field of practice.
Hastati [Assassins] - These are your basic assassins, your trainees basically as all assassins are expected to specialize in something at the end, but those that specialize in fighting techniques are left in this rank while others advance to Equite. The two ranks are equal however, meaning an Equite cannot boss around a Hastati. Hastati will become eyes and ears of the pack in times of peace and will accompany the Legatus and the Lochagos on their missions. They will almost always be gone from the pack except for brief times when they bring their information back to the ears of the Emperor.
The Tenth Armament
Taxiarchos [Lieutenant over Hunters] - The Taxiarchos is the leader on hunts in which only the Matarchis participate. They are to make sure that none of the Matarchis are unduly hurt and also that they hunt and kill enough food for the clan that day. Otherwise, they function as a normal hunter with some leadership privileges.
Pterarchos [Lieutenant over Sentries] - He relays information to the Emperor on what and how many recruits they have accepted in a week's time. This is to keep the Royalty up to date on the citizens that live within the land of Akkadia. Otherwise they function as a normal sentry would plus the duty of keeping tabs on everyone that was accepted into the land.
Matarchis [Hunters] - The hunters of Akkadia, their job is simple. They are to keep food plentiful in the land and to make sure that everyone is healthy and well fed. Which increases the size at which the cubs of the pack will max at and bigger is better. The more that the Matarchis hunt and what they hunt will determine how good a particular Matarchis is in the eyes of the clan. However they are charged only to hunt what is necessary for the clan to survive.
Harmosts [Sentries] - The sentries of Akkadia, they are in charge of making sure that only the best recruits make it into the clan. Their duties are the question, test and then either accept or deny the recruits entrance into Akkadia. While their rank is lower on the totem pole it is just as important as a hunter, warrior or guard. Most of the newcomers will start off here once their judgment is trusted.
Caste
Damodeis [Newcomers] - These are basically the new recruits, who will be listed here for a month out of character in which time they most either receive a rank of some form or be demoted down to Mothace, which means that the recruit is little more then a bump on a log to Akkadia.
Mothaces [Commoners] - Newcomers over one month without a rank or demoted people are usually placed here for three weeks out of character before the newcomer is killed and the demoted is placed under Rhetra.
Rhetras [Slaves] - These are either trespassers that were not killed and instead slaved due to a promising appearance, or a demoted Mothace. It is hard to rise out of this rank, but it is possible if you show your higher ranks that you will work to get out of it.
Helots [Prisoners] - These are the prisoners that are taken in times of war, they will never truly raise out of this rank unless they work extremely hard and how the alphas they can be trusted. It is a strenuous process to rise from this far down in the ranks, but it is possible.
